One DECKED Out Truck

When it comes to truck accessories, the options are endless, but one accessory rules them all… Decked!

What can you say about a tool storage system that single-handedly replaces three tool boxes? Incredible! While it may sound hokey and “put on,” the DECKED system has really changed my life — the way I work, how efficient I am, and how confident I am knowing that I have nearly every tool I need with me at all times. Seeing the DECKED system in action is, like, a smack in the face to anyone unfamiliar with it. I can not tell you the number of times I’ve been stopped in the parking lot of Home Depot and asked “What the heck is that?!?”, “Did you make that?”, “Where can I get one of those things?”  If you get DECKED for your truck/van, be prepared to answer all these, and more.

One thing that is abundantly clear is that DECKED did their homework. They researched all the metal/wood options that were on, and off, the market and it shows. Every system is custom molded to fit your truck bed (except the 8ft beds) and requires no drilling whatsoever. While DECKED does require you to remove any plastic bedliner you might have, it does allow you to have a spray in bedliner. Rest assured there’s not enough room for a tool to fall in between the system and the bed.

DECKED is made from HDPE plastic reinforced with metal struts and is able to support 2,000lbs. Each drawer can hold up to 200lbs and can be outfitted with a drain plug, locks, trays, and/or dividers. One add-on that you should seriously consider are the cargo tie downs, they’re incredibly helpful and also very easy to use.

If you’re a truck guy and you’re reading this and saying “Yeah, but what about the loss of depth in the bed?” Look, no matter what you put in the bed, you’re going to lose storage room. But, having come from a traditional saddle-style tool box, I can tell you from experience that having the full length has been much better than having full depth. One thing to also consider is this, you actually get more [usable] storage because DECKED goes over the wheel well and makes for a flat surface all around, meaning you don’t have to worry about the 4′ inner wheel well width. To complete the system, DECKED has outfitted the corners with, what they call, “ammo cans.” These four buckets, one in each corner, make great (non-waterproof) storage. I like to keep contractor bags in one, chain in another, and misc. aerosols (WD-40) in another.

I could go on and on about how much I love the DECKED system, but the best thing is to find someone you know who has one, check it out at a trade show, or just buy one  and check it out for yourself. I can promise you you won’t be disappointed.

Plus, you get to load it with a forklift!
